After Work Happy Hours + The Perfect Summer Shorts

Sometimes work hours are from nine to wine. And there's nothing wrong with using a happy hour to help with that.

This Summer my mission is to find two things in large quantities for my NYC babes: amazing happy hours and shorts. Shorts that actually make you feel like its okay to wear them outside of the beach or club but still be able to dress them up to wear out.

Recently, I did a purge of my closet like I do each season but realized that none of my high-waisted-college-frat-party shorts were cutting it anymore. I kept a few for beachy days but the rest I have donated or sold. I now suffer in jeans when its 90+ degrees out but I found my first of many shorts that I will be adding to my wardrobe this season.

Aritzia, which if you have been following me you may know, is one of my favorite places to find virtually any pieces that can be worn for work or for having a good time. The quality is amazing and they have so many size options including ones that work for my size. These white shorts are now one of my go-to's for situations after work or out east days with my family. I’ll be sharing a few other brands that I love for shorts at the end of this post.

Now onto Happy Hours. Not going to lie, working long hours in the city cut out a lot of the normal happy hours you can go to. The thing I love about Fig & Olive is again the quality of the food and drinks (quality is a major theme here) while offering great prices during their happy that is available every day at the bar. The vibes at the Meatpacking location make you feel like you’ve taken a quick trip to the south of France but don’t feel too fancy where you feel out of place.

Have your Sex In The City moment while feeling as trendy as Carrie Bradshaw herself. I'm sure she would approve of these shorts and drink choice.

Mattituck and the Sweetest Brunch

The Sunburst from Love Lane Kitchen

The Sunburst from Love Lane Kitchen

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there are few things that I love more than spending the day out east.  And when I say out east, I mean from Riverhead, NY and beyond (not just Suffolk County).  Every town out there has something special to offer and feels like a mini-vacation from the hustle and grind that New York constantly pushes out.

This post is a little bit of a throwback, but I couldn't move on to my current situation without giving this place the recognition it deserves.  Love Lane is a road in Mattituck that you can spend a long afternoon shopping at boutiques and eat from different cafes and restaurants.  My mother, sister, and I stumbled upon Love Lane Kitchen while looking for a good brunch.

It's hard for us to agree on a place to eat because I tend to lean towards more healthy and refreshing meals which can be kind of boring for a lot of people, while they like more fun, savory places to eat.  This diner-esque restaurant has something for every kind of eater.  I was able to order fresh cold-pressed juice and warm butternut squash soup while they ordered a delicious stuffed french toast and sweet potato hash.  There was even a walk-up counter where you could order a coffee and a quick breakfast to go.

This is the perfect place to catch up with friends, go for a cute breakfast date or even a just to grab a quick meal with someone.  For your outfit, keep it casual. Since we're heading into Spring, I would say a nice blouse, a pair of jeans and booties or comfortable heeled sandals if it's warm enough.  If you're someone like me who gets cold easily, a jacket or long cardigan is the perfect layering piece for a casual outfit like this.
